Mariluz Gomes Barata is a doctoral candidate in Psychology at the University of Aveiro. She completed her master’s degree in Health Psychology and Neuropsychological Rehabilitation at the same university, with a dissertation entitled “Behavioral Intervention in Adolescents with Social Anxiety.” This study was published and highlights the influence of behavioral intervention in reducing/eliminating avoidance and safety behaviors in adolescents. She holds a master’s degree in Education from the University of Beira Interior, with a dissertation on “The Pedagogical Relationship and the Development of Emotional Intelligence in Adolescence.” She is a psychologist registered with the Portuguese Order of Psychologists (OPP), professional license number 024394, and is a secondary school Philosophy teacher, working at the Quinta das Palmeiras Secondary School, Covilhã, Portugal. Her research interests include adolescence, academic anxiety, social anxiety, emotions, education, and psychological flexibility.
Currently, her doctoral project focuses on the theme “Understanding and Transforming Academic Anxiety in Adolescence: An Approach Based on Psychological Flexibility,” aiming to understand and prevent academic anxiety in adolescents, based on the conceptual model of acceptance and commitment therapy.
