Bárbara Daniela da Silva Pereira is a PhD student ISPA – Instituto Universitário (WJCR – William James Center for Research), developing a doctoral study that aims to explore how female victims are viewed by judges, in particular, the way victims’ features are considered in gender-based crimes, namely intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual violence (rape and sexual harassment). She completed her Master’s Degree in Applied Psychology at Universidade do Minho in 2019. Her thesis aimed to verify how the victim of sexual abuse is conceptualized and how their characteristics are incorporated in the sentences, and resulted in an article entitled “Child sexual abuse: How is the victim represented in Portuguese sentences?”. Currently, her research focus is gender-based victimization and its interconnections with the justice system.
