Francis Carneiro is a licensed clinical and health psychologist and a researcher at William James Center for Research. She has developed previous research in subjective well-being on elderly women with breast cancer and also in LGBT families and attitudes towards these families. Currently her research focuses on Family Resiliency and trajectories of Planned Families, namely, families through adoption, surrogacy, donor insemination and assisted reproduction techniques. She is particularly interested in exploring these new family configurations’ ability to psychologically adjust with adversity and especially how they successfully overcome and thrive from this stressful situations. Through a mixed-method approach (qualitative and quantitative) and multi-informant assessment ultimately the main goals of her research project are to examine the factors that promote family resilience and also to explore and develop scientific knowledge about the new family dynamics in parenthood and their impact on children’s psychosocial adjustment. Her current interest fields are family processes and resilience, children’s well-being, different family constellations, LGB families and Sexual and Gender Diversity (SGD).
