Prof. Dr. Michael Lamb (Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany) will give a lecture entitled “Children’s Voices in the Criminal Justice System”
About the Speaker:
Dr. Michael Lamb is a Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Cambridge and an internationally recognized authority on child–caregiver relationships, as well as on children’s participation as witnesses in legal proceedings. He is the author or editor of more than 50 books and hundreds of scientific publications. He has received numerous awards for academic excellence and has held prominent editorial positions at leading international psychology journals.

Abstract:
Although the law ostensibly protects children because of their apparent immaturity, dependence, and vulnerability, there are many ways in which the legal system has disadvantaged children by adopting procedures and practices that systematically place them at a disadvantage.
In recent years, considerable efforts have been made to implement reforms to help children provide accurate and informative testimony, both in and out of court, as well as to understand their rights.
This presentation discusses studies designed to help children provide detailed accounts during forensic interviews, testify in court, and respond effectively when questioned as suspects of an “offence.”
