About the Speaker:
Dr. Tânia Brandão is an Assistant Professor at ISPA – Instituto Universitário and co-director of the Master’s Degree in Health Psychology. She is an integrated researcher at the William James Center for Research, where she conducts research on psychological adaptation to health conditions and normative and non-normative life transitions. Her work has focused primarily on emotional regulation processes, family dynamics, and adaptation to chronic illness.

Abstract:
Chronic diseases represent one of the main public health challenges due to their high prevalence and the significant impact they can have on the quality of life of affected individuals. In addition to the physical limitations associated with these conditions, many people also experience psychological and social difficulties that require ongoing adaptation processes.
In this context, psychological intervention plays an important role in promoting well-being and supporting disease management.
Among the different approaches, group interventions in healthcare settings offer several advantages, including the sharing of experiences, strengthening of social support, and development of more adaptive cognitive and emotional resources.
This conference will present data on the prevalence of chronic diseases and their psychosocial impact, as well as proposals for group-based psychological interventions targeting different chronic conditions.
